In short, a shooting star is another word for a meteor! A meteor is the visible flash of light that we see when a meteoroid falls towards Earth and enters Earth's atmosphere, where it begins to burn up. It can be made up of many different things, like iron, nickel, and silicon. Depending on what it's made of and the elements it contains, it can burn many different colors, from red and purple to green, yellow, and orange. It really is something to see and June 30th is National Meteor Watch Day. So, get outside, turn your eyes to the skies, and cross your fingers! Hopefully, you'll get to wish upon a falling star.
